Assassination attempt: Amaechi's SARS and Army escorts attack Wike

"This is a crass show of high handedness, arbitrary behaviour and abuse of public office by a State governor who has no care for the safety of Rivers people". "Akin Fakorede (a Chief Superintendent of Police), who received the minister of transportation at the Port Harcourt International Airport and accompanied him on his trip".

The transport minister also said that Wike's escort who beat up the policeman was led by Wike's Chief Security Officer, CSO, SP PROMISE WOSU.

Wike's accusation comes barely 24 hours after he escaped an alleged assassination attempt involving his security aides and that of the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.

However, Amaechi said he was the one who actually came under attack. he claimed that Wike's security details pulled guns on him and vandalised his vehicle.

The statement also alleged that while the SARS officers stepped down to assault the security personnel of the governor, the soldiers remained in their vehicle watching the scene. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who was in the same vehicle with the Minister of Transportation, indicated that Wike's dispatch rider pulled a pistol to assassinate Amaechi, but missed his target, after which Amaechi's Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Mr. Seimeikumo Debewari, intervened to save the minister from further assassination attempt.

Wike according to the statement was not hurt, he continued with his inspection of the road project after the incident.

On the attack on his convoy on Saturday, Governor Wike said the people of Rivers State should not be surprised at the level of desperation by the Minister of Transportation, noting that they should expect worst actions by the APC in the future.

"PDP is once again constrained to draw the attention of President Buhari to another assassination attempt by his Minister on Governor Wike on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Port Harcourt".

But Mr. Amaechi denied the claims, saying that "gun-totting security men attached to Wike's convoy" surrounded Mr. Amaechi's auto, threatening to shoot him. "Why did these men of darkness after realising that the vehicle that the Minister was driving was a Bullet Proof resorted to hitting the jeep with the butt of their guns and in the process broke the right driving mirror and attempted to break Amaechi's windscreen and after which he pulled his pistol to kill Amaechi?" While the attacked occurred, Wike remained inside his vehicle.

The statement said the minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on ground to protect him in Port Harcourt.

Report of the sad incident was immediately lodged at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Rivers Police Command, headed by Zaki Ahmed, while Ubaji's rifle had not been recovered, with Ewelu and other injured policemen still receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals in Port Harcourt, as at press time. It alleged that Wike's security men were heard loudly insulting Amaechi and calling him derogative names.

Wike further claimed that the appellate court was being used to create an atmosphere of conflict in the state to pave the way for the central government to execute something sinister. The transportation minister hails from Ubima in Ikwerre LGA, while the Rivers governor is an indigene of Rumueprikom in Obio/Akpor council.

Mr. Wike was unhurt, the statement said.
