Kate Middleton's uncle pleads guilty to punching wife unconscious with 'left hook'

Gary, the younger brother of Princess Kate's mother Carole, left his wife Julie-Ann Goldsmith unconscious after punching her in the face as they arrived home in a taxi in London on October 13.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard the pair had argued in the back of a taxi before he threw a "left hook".

The Duchess of Cambridge's uncle Gary Goldsmith arrives at court before pleading guilty to an assault by beating charge.

"The argument took place in the back of a taxi".

Mrs. Goldsmith doesn't remember how it happened, but Gary punched her in the face which knocked her straight to the floor including her head which bounced on the ground. Shepherd said the couple had got in a row before Julie-Anne slapped her husband across the face.

Stepping out for the solo royal engagement on the wet and cold day, Kate Middleton opted for knee-high black boots with a slight block heel, which she appeared to wear over black leggings.

The assault caused Julie-Ann to hit the ground, and she laid there with her eyes closed for around 15 seconds.

Mrs Goldsmith then asked the taxi driver to call the police.

At the police station, Goldsmith denied punching his wife, claiming he had pushed her hard with his left hand, but was apologetic for his actions, the court heard.

Mrs Goldsmith was taken to hospital in an ambulance after she was hit, but was later discharged, the court heard.

When Shepherd then challenged Goldsmith over his actions, he became aggressive towards the taxi driver, it was said.

Kate Middleton's uncle Gary Goldsmith appeared in court Tuesday, and admitted to physically assaulting his wife following a drunken night out, according to the BBC.

Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said: "There was a request from the defence that came in to the court for a two week adjournment so that a caution could be looked at". But I am really looking at how to protect this lady from this man'. Their mother worked in a shop and also did accounts, while their father was a painter and decorator.
