La Liga president confirms Lionel Messi has already signed new Barcelona deal

And La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed the reports are accurate, despite the club having yet to confirm it.

On 5 July the Catalans announced they had reached an agreement to tie the five-time Ballon d'Or victor him to Nou Camp until 2021.

A summer of turmoil in which the Catalans saw Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League before losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain was topped off with the new Messi has signed a new deal being retracted. "The deal will be signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for pre-season training".

Tebas told a press conference he hoped to seal a new deal by March 2018 and that the sum included fees for domestic and worldwide broadcasting rights.

"The club will offer him a lifetime contract", he said.

Some reports have even suggested that the 30-year-old forward could negotiate a move to another side from January with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

"Messi has renewed his deal, at least that's what Barcelona have suggested to me. All that is missing is the picture with the president".

But Tebas is convinced one of La Liga's most important players has already signed a new deal.

In Guillem Balague's Q&A with Sky Sports on October 20, he said: "Messi is getting paid according to the new contract".

'Contracts are official when they are signed and not when it is announced that they have been signed.

COUTINHO FOR BARCELONA: Camp Nou legend and fellow Brazilian Ronaldinho pointed out that Coutinho would be an ideal signing for Barcelona as he has the flair and quality to succeed.
