Liverpool full-back Clyne out for another three months following back surgery

Liverpool's injured England right back Nathaniel Clyne could be sidelined for up to three months more after having back surgery, British media reported on Monday.

That's how back problems are. He featured for 45 minutes in the opening pre-season game at Tranmere in July, but has been missing ever since.

The £10million full-back arrived from Hull in the summer but he has only made two starts in the Premier League and one in the League Cup this season and he has admitted to feeling frustrated.

Earlier in November manager Jurgen Klopp said Clyne had suffered "a little setback" in his recovery.

The Liverpool manager said: "He was in a good way, running with high intensity but the muscle showed a little reaction".

"The back is a really weak part of your body". It's not the best thing, especially not for him. It's not a big problem, it just needs time.

Clyne was Klopp's most-used player prior to injury, featuring in 37 of the Reds' 38 league games last season, with little backup for the England global.

The English media reported on Monday evening that the England worldwide has undergone corrective back surgery on an issue that has plagued him for months, and will continue to do so with the 25-year-old now set to miss another three months of action.

In his absence, youngsters Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, who recently earned his first senior England call-up, have been deputising at right-back.

Liverpool declined to comment on Clyne's latest setback when approached by The Independent.
