'One Tree Hill' showrunner Mark Schwahn is accused of sexual harassment

'One Tree Hill' showrunner Mark Schwahn is accused of sexual harassment

In a series of tweets, Audrey accused Mark Schwahn, the creator and showrunner of One Tree Hill, of sexual harassment.

It's never easy to hear someone share their story of sexual assault, and finding out that it allegedly happened on set of a beloved teen TV show is heartbreaking.

"Mark Schwahn's behavior over the duration of the filming of One Tree Hill was something of an 'open secret'".

"Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally".

There is only ONE Tree Hill and we are all more than one showrunner; we are a supportive community of fans and cast members. Many of us were put in uncomfortable positions and had to swiftly learn to fight back, sometimes physically, because it was made clear to us that the supervisors in the room were not the protectors they were supposed to be, ' the letter read.

Now, in their open letter, Sophia, Hilarie and castmate Bethany Joy Lenz have been joined by crew members all accusing Schwahn of treating them in ways that were "traumatizing" and "downright illegal".

Wauchope also states that when women did threaten to come forward, their careers were threatened.

Schwahn hasn't responded to the allegations against him.

Schwahn is now the showrunner on E!'s "The Royals", with a spokesperson for the network saying in a statement: "We are monitoring the information carefully".

They said that they leaned on each other when they couldn't take the matter further, and that they stayed silent because they were anxious the show would be cancelled if anything got out.

"E!, Universal Cable Productions and Lionsgate Television are committed to providing a safe working environment in which everyone is treated respectfully and professionally", a statement said.

The letter was signed by both cast and crew: Audrey Wauchope, Rachel Specter, Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, Bethany Joy Lenz, Danneel Harris, Michaela McManus, Kate Voegele, Daphne Zuniga, India De Beaufort, Bevin Prince, Jana Kramer, Shantel VanSanten, Allison Munn, Jane Beck, Tarin Squillante, Cristy Koebley, and JoJo Stephens.

The women were inspired to make a statement after a writer on the show tweeted about an unnamed showrunner who harassed female writers.

In her original social media statements, Wauchope, now a writer on CW's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", wrote about female staffers who would avoid sitting next to the "showrunner", now identified as Schwahn, on the staff couches so "as to not be touched".

The unsolicited advances toward female staff included putting his arm around them, petting their hair and showing naked pictures of an actress he was having an affair with, according to Wauchope's tweets. "It turns out my story was a catalyst for others and I stand by them as they continue to speak".
