Roger Goodell Seeking $50M Salary, Private Jet for Life in New Contract

Roger Goodell Seeking $50M Salary, Private Jet for Life in New Contract

Next step: Leak to the media what Goodell is looking for. An issue that some owners have with this is a few don't even make $40 million annually, when you factor out the overall value of the team they own.

"That number for Roger just seems too much", the owner said. Those owners surely hope that the group grows, and leaks like this one won't hurt that effort. Goodell's current salary is around $30 million per year, though he has the potential to earn more with bonuses. "It's offensive. It's unseemly".

Jones' threat last week to potentially sue the league and other owners over Goodell getting a new contract extension - considered a foregone conclusion in league circles since the spring, when all 32 owners empowered the Compensation Committee to negotiate a deal without further approval required - has angered fellow owners and increasingly isolated Jones.

The conference call, first reported Saturday by The New York Times, marks the first call since Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones voiced his displeasure about the contract extension that the committee has been discussing.

While Goodell has been the National Football League commissioner for over a decade, he may not get a contract extension by the National Football League owners. "He can stand to show some humility, but he won't listen to staff".

Those around Goodell do not believe he will leave the job, despite the protestations of a handful of owners.

The committee will address Goodell's salary and compensation package. Indeed, no lawsuit had been filed by the close of business Friday, sources said.

Owners also feel that outside issues are destroying the product.

"The problem is, no one is talking about games anymore", one owner told ESPN this weekend. Jones and Goodell have clashed in recent months, most notably about the commissioner's six-game suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.
