Singapore mass rapid transit trains collide, 23 injured

A Singapore mass transit train collided early on Wednesday with another at a station, injuring 25 people, authorities said, the latest incident involving the city-state's railways. At 8:18am, a train heading westwards in the direction of Tuas Link station stalled at Joo Koon station. Six members and other seven managerial staff of SMRT's Building and Facilities Maintenance group were found responsible for the maintenance of the pump system, which was related to the incident, according to local media.

"At 8.20am, the second train moved forward unexpectedly, and came into contact with the first train", the statement said.

Singapore's mass-rapid rail system suffered its second collision since the network began in 1987, when a train operated by SMRT Corp. hit a stationary one Wednesday. - Picture by Low Youjin/TODAY SINGAPORE, Nov 15 - Twenty-three passengers sustained minor injuries and had to be taken to nearby hospitals after a collision between two trains at Joo Koon MRT station this morning.

About half the injured passengers were taken to the National University Hospital.

As if delays on two separate train lines weren't troubling enough for commuters, some had to contend with injuries sustained from a collision on tracks.

Joo Koon station was closed to passengers after the incident till around 11.20am. That incident, a front-to-back collision between two trains at Clementi station on Aug 5, 1993, resulted in 156 injured commuters.
