A Disastrous Justice League Sends Warner Bros

Although studio executives hoped the struggling DC Extended Universe could turn a page with Justice League, the $300 million film proved polarizing with critics and fans, and has earned just $572 million worldwide. Berg will step down from the studio's executive ranks and become a producer on the lot, the company said Thursday.

Jon Berg, who has been running the DC Comic Films with Geoff Johns, is stepping down from his role, according to the trade.

Variety reports that veteran producer Jon Berg, who a year ago was appointed alongside DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns to supervise the slate of films based on DC Comics properties, will step aside, and instead work as a production partner of Roy Lee (The LEGO Movie).

Berg and Johns were placed in charge of DC Films in 2016, following the disappointing performance of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. "I first met Jon when, as a producer, he brought "Elf" to New Line, which remains one of the best and most evergreen titles in the library".

There looks to be major shifts at Warner Bros. with its DC Comics movies, and not even its top creatives are safe. Warner Bros.is reportedly planning to either announce a replacement for Johns and Berg as early as January, or simply absorb the leadership of DC Films into the studio's larger filmmaking operation.

Variety says there are no immediate plans for Snyder to direct another DC movie, and the outlet notes that Time Warner-Warner Bros.' parent company-"is said to be frustrated that Warner Bros. leaders continued to bring the director back".

(L-R) Ben Affleck as Batman and Zack Snyder.Warner Bros. The studio hired on Joss Whedon to punch up the "Justice League" dialogue, and he took over directing the reshoots after Snyder left the project following his daughter's suicide.

In addition, it's suggested further changes include that both Jon Berg and Geoff Johns will not be receiving full producer credits on future DCEU movies like they did with Justice League.

Up next for the DCEU is James Wan's Aquaman for December 2018; Shazam! is in development for an April 2019 release, the Wonder Woman sequel has a November 2019 release, and a movie for The Flash (said to be Flashpoint) is in development.
