Baynes' play key for Celtics in 91-81 victory over Pistons

The Boston Celtics held the Detroit Pistons scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half on the way to a 91-81 victory Sunday night - the Pistons' sixth straight loss.

After today's game against the Celtics, the Detroit Pistons begin a streak of games where they should win the majority. Harrison Barnes scored 19 points for the Mavericks. "Our offense wasn't as crisp tonight as we wanted it to be but defensively we had a game plan and we stuck with it".

Last time they played Andre Drummond was unstoppable on the boards, grabbing a whopping 22 for the game, but that's not all he did!

Detroit opened the game with a 10-4 run, looking to pick up where they left off when the two met on November 27 and the Pistons handed Boston a 118-108 defeat, Boston's worst loss of the season.

The Pistons, meanwhile, have lost six straight for the first time since late in the 2014-15 season. "Tonight, we wanted to go out there and control it a lot better".

While they were getting it done down the stretch, the player of the game for Boston was easily Aron Baynes.

Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson missed all nine of his shot attempts and the starters were a combined 13-for-50 from the field. "He got shots for other guys, but we didn't make any of them".

DeRozan shot 9 of 15 and was 7 of 11 on free throws while going over the 12,000-point mark for his career.

The Pistons' losing streak is their longest since they dropped 10 straight in February and March 2015. "We knew we were going to play a month unlike anyone else in the National Basketball Association, and we started it well, but now it has gotten bad".

Irving scored 11 first-half points, and the Celtics led 44-37 at halftime.

Al Horford had 18 points, Jaylen Brown scored 12, reserve Marcus Smart also had 12 points and smooth-shooting rookie Jayson Tatum scored 11 for the Celtics.

In addition to avenging last month's defeat, the Celtics bounced back from a disappointing loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, December 8 - when Argentinian veteran Manu Ginobili drained a 3-pointer with 5 seconds to play that gave the Spurs a 105-102 win.

Boston led by 16 before the Pistons reeled off 12 unanswered points. Tatum made a 3-pointer late to help hold off a potential comeback by the Pistons, putting Boston ahead by eight with 1:55 left.

Morris has been struggling through this knee issue, so it's probably wise the Celtics shut him down for a bit. The Celtics complete a back-to-back by playing at Chicago on Monday while the Pistons finish off a three-game homestand against Denver on Tuesday.
