Comcast no longer pursuing Fox assets

Fox would retain Fox News, the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports 1.

Comcast will not pursue an acquisition of a suite of entertainment assets from 21st Century Fox, leaving The Walt Disney Company in the clear to complete a deal.

In addition to the Marvel properties, Disney would acquire: "Fox's movie and TV studio, networks including FX and National Geographic, and worldwide assets including Star India's TV channels and a 39 percent stake in European satellite provider Sky Plc".

NBCUniversal owner Comcast was one of a few companies with the scale to buy the available Fox assets, but has confirmed it is not moving forwards with a bid. That is what we tried to do and we are no longer engaged in the review of those assets.

Again, though, the issue of who actually owns the rights and what exactly Marvel would get should Disney purchase Fox - which, they nearly certainly will at this stage - is extremely complicated and no one really seems to know what'll happen to the Fantastic Four once this deal goes through. "We never got the level of engagement needed to make a definitive offer". However, it was Comcast that was being considered by the Fox studios. According to a report in Variety, Fox has brought in representatives from Goldman Sachs and Centerview Partners to assess the financials of the possible deal, while Disney has hired a team of bankers from JP Morgan Chase and Guggenheim Partners. Apart from the small top group at Disney and Fox, who are directly involved in the ongoing negotiations, the workers at the two firms seem to have no clue on what's going on in their companies that has led to a lot of anxiety and speculations about the future.

Some reports suggested James Murdoch, son of 21st Century Fox head Rupert Murdoch and current CEO of 21st Century Fox could move over to Disney with a new role.
