Ed Sheeran is Spotify's most popular artist of 2017

The numbers are in. "Divide" racked up 3.1 billion streams and overall Sheeran's music generated 6.3 billion streams. Wrapped allows you to see how many minutes of music you have listened to as well as how many songs, artists, and genres.

The streaming service reported that "Shape of You" has been streamed 1.4 billion times, making it the most-streamed track ever.

Ed Sheeran has snagged a triple crown of streaming for 2017, ranking as Spotify's most-streamed artist as well as tallying the most-streamed single ("Shape of You") and the top-streamed album ("Divide").

And the victor for the most streamed artist on the streaming service is.

Following the British crooner in the global top five was Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers. One artist in particular who's had an exceptional year is Rihanna.

The real Cinderella story throughout all this year's data is the surge of Spanish-language music.

Sheeran surpassed Drake, Spotify's most-streamed artist of 2015 and 2016.

Spotify says hip-hop increased by 74 percent in the past year, while Latin music jumped 110 percent.

A remix of Despacito, featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber, was also the second most streamed track of the year globally on Spotify, while Fonsi's original took third place. This proves that she's not only dominating the fashion and beauty world but she's continuing to reign the music world as well. In June, the service was forced to pay a $43 million settlement in a class action suit brought against them by songwriters - a problem that seems to have little hope of simply going away. That's pretty unbelievable for an artist who didn't release an album this year! The next year will be an important one for the Swedish company, as it plans to publicly list its stock at a total valuation estimated between $16 and $20 billion.
