Lawmaker in Pennsylvania calls colleague gay after he touched his arm

Republican state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe was chairing a meeting about land use legislation when state Rep. Matthew Bradford, a Democrat who was speaking at the time, touched his arm. He went on to instruct his Democratic colleague that, if he wanted to touch someone, there are "people on your side of the aisle that might like it".

"OK, we're officially off the rails", Bradford said amid nervous chuckles throughout the meeting room. He then requested a sidebar to discuss what he called "extraneous issues".

Bradford, who has a wife and four children has reportedly said that Metcalfe was "out of control" with his comments.

Neither man could be reached for comment.

He interrupted the visibly stunned Bradford mid-sentence to tell him to stop touching him.

The incident, captured on a video feed, took place during a state government committee meeting in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Tuesday night.

The Democrat added: 'You can't make this stuff up!

In addition to being racist, Metcalfe is homophobic.

Metcalfe later told the Tribune-Review that Bradford has touched his arm or shoulder often during meetings in recent months even though he has asked Bradford to stop.

The state Democratic Party called for Metcalfe to resign, while a gay and transgender rights group and a health care workers' labor union asked Turzai to strip Metcalfe of his committee chairmanship.

"I don't know what his sexuality or his sexual behavior is".

The conservative lawmaker told TribLive that Bradford has been repeatedly told to rein in his touching behavior. "I don't know what it is", he insisted. I speak with my hands.

'I have no idea what goes on in his head, and some days I'm glad for that, ' Bradford said.

When same-sex marriage was recognized across the country by the Supreme Court in 2015, Mecalfe said the Supreme Court displayed "judicial tyranny".

Daryl Metcalfe, a Cranberry Republican, should resign over alleged homophobic remarks.
