Man killed at Sydney ink factory

Supt Turner said: 'The third patient unfortunately died on scene, this is a awful tragedy.

One man is dead and two others are in hospital after an industrial accident on Thursday left them trapped inside an ink Value-Added Tax at a manufacturing business in Sydney's west.

A rescue operation was launched at an Auburn work site about 8.45am on Thursday following reports three men had been injured.

New South Wales Ambulance Superintendent Paul Turner said two workers were rescued, one after a few minutes and another after two hours, but it was impossible to save the victim.

"I believe there's a mixing blade in the Value-Added Tax and that's what they've become trapped on".

"We had ten ambulance resources on scene, along with NSW Police and Fire & Rescue".

"We did absolutely everything we could".

"It is a complex operation".

It is understood the man had become trapped "by compression".

Worker Michael Stinson said the man who died got stuck in the giant cylinder first, and the two survivors had rushed to his aid, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports. We worked as quickly as we could to access these patients'.

The man is yet to be formally identified and his body remains in the tank, a NSW Police spokesman told AAP.

One of the men rescued was transported to Westmead Hospital with leg fractures and another with leg injuries.

The surviving men were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
