New Windows 10 ARM devices offer incredible battery life

With Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor powering them, Microsoft claims that, in terms of battery life, these devices will blow traditional laptops out of the water, with users set to get "20 to 30 hours" of juice from a single charge.

While Microsoft itself isn't launching hardware, the company yesterday showed off new Windows 10 devices from Asus and HP that it's touting as the first "Always Connected" Windows 10 devices.

"ASUS NovaGo is a convertible laptop with leading Gigabit LTE connectivity and battery life that revolutionises what the personal PC can be for consumers", Cristiano Amon, President, Qualcomm Technologies Inc, said in a statement.

Microsoft has partnered with Qualcomm to officially unveil the first ARM-powered Windows 10 laptops.

Both of these devices will run Microsoft's stripped-back Windows 10 S operating system, created to only run 32-bit apps from the Windows Store, both ASUS and HP are offering free upgrades to Windows 10 Pro before 30 September 2018.

The device has up to 22-hour battery life with over 30 days of stand-by time and a built-in eSIM that ensures seamless connectivity across borders, the company said.

HP's Envy X2, on the other hand, is an "Always Connected" detachable PC in a thin form factor measuring 6.9mm thin. It features a brilliant 12.3-inch diagonal touch WUXGA+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for increased durability and scratch resistance when on the go.

The HP Envy x2 is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset (the same chipset also powers flagship phones) and also supports the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem, which makes the "always connected" concept possible. The device can be used as both laptop and tablet. Users will also have the performance to do more with the speedy and power efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC platform, multi-task with up to 8 GB LPDDR4X PoP memory, and store movies and pictures with up to 256 GB of storage. The device comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, HP hasn't yet revealed pricing and availability details. Available early next year, the 4GB RAM/64GB UFS 2.0 will be available for $599 and the 8GB RAM/256GB UFS 2.0 configuration will be available for $799.
