Rodgers return a medical decision for Packers

McCarthy reiterated that team physician Dr. Patrick McKenzie - not Rodgers or the coaching staff - would make the decision on Rodgers' status. His players seemed hopeful.

The wait continues for word on exactly when Aaron Rodgers can return from the broken collarbone that's sidelined the Packers quarterback for almost two months.

Rodgers, who has been out since breaking his collarbone in October, underwent a bone scan Monday.

"It's in the evaluation process". "Frankly it's best for Aaron to know as soon as possible".

"In his mind, he's ready to go", McCarthy said.

But the franchise quarterback was still waiting for medical clearance. "There's a number of medical opinions that will be involved in the decision".

Most likely, McCarthy is downplaying the return for some reason (perhaps so the Carolina Panthers can't get an early jump on game-planning for Rodgers), and Rodgers will be back as everyone expects. The two-time NFL MVP returned to practice December 2 on what McCarthy called a "trial return".

"When Hundley started playing for them they weren't throwing balls vertical, but now you're starting to see more vertical shots - stuff similar to the stuff they did with Rodgers", Rivera said. McCarthy said team doctors are reviewing the scan and the team hopes to have an update on his availability Tuesday. "When my number's called upon, I'll be ready".

There are only three games left and the Packers can surprisingly still win the division. With the Packers in the thick of the postseason hunt but now on the outside looking in on a playoff berth (they're a game behind the No. 6-seeded Atlanta Falcons), Rodgers' return from his broken collarbone would be a major boost to their hopes down the stretch.

"For weeks now he's been projected to come back for our game".

Wilks said Rodgers throws the best back-shoulder passes of any quarterbacks he's seen, and also was complimentary of Rodgers' game-management skills and running ability. Rodgers has stuck to a normal midweek preparation routine. I don't have an answer for you. This defense as a whole, we're ready for whatever challenge is ahead of us.
