Sony Cannot Ignore the Switch According to Kazuhiko Takeda

Sony can not fail to notice it, even if PS4 is doing very well with regards to sales.

Coming off a record Black Friday season, Sony has revealed new sales info for PS4, PS VR, and software for both platforms.

Sony has announced that PlayStation 4 sales have surpassed the 70 million mark as of December 3, 2017. The nine-month timespan is actually quite precise since the latest Media Create release is related to the week ending on December 3rd, with a total bounty for Nintendo's new console of 2.522.298 units. That's still a tad shy of the approximately 17.5 million annual sales the PlayStation 4 has averaged in its first four years on the market, but most consoles sell fewer units in their first year than subsequent ones thanks to factors like limited supplies, higher prices, and smaller software libraries.

"We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4 and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction", said Andrew House, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment in a statement. 617.8 million PS4 games have been sold through retail and digital downloads, while 12.2 million PSVR games have been sold through the same channels. "I can not thank our fans and partners enough". These are incredible numbers, as Sony now leads the console generation in hardware and software sales. PS VR, which launched a year ago, continues to sell well, especially following great deals over Black Friday. Sony pointed out strong third-party titles such as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, Monster Hunter: World, and Yakuza Kiwami 2.
