Stewart open to returning as Picard in Tarantino's 'Star Trek'

He said of the possibility of returning to "Star Trek", "One of my dreams is to work with Tarantino". Tarantino and Paramount are now looking at who they want to write the film but are holding off on who will direct as Tarantino may step behind the camera to helm the film after he wraps production on his 1960s period piece set around the time of the Charles Manson murders. Later in the week came word that not only is Tarantino still planning to direct, but he also insisted his Star Trek movie be rated R, and Paramount agreed. Smith is best known for his work in the film that gave Leonardo DiCaprio his long sought after Oscar, The Revenant.

Tarantino's "Star Trek" has not officially been announced, but if it comes to fruition, it will be the first R-rated "Star Trek" movie.

Tarantino is now developing an "R" rated "Star Trek" film at Paramount alongside J.J. Abrams with plans that the "Pulp Fiction" creator will also direct the movie as well.

Again, there is nothing official here. But if Tarantino wants to find a way to work Picard into his film, Stewart is more than willing to beam aboard. Seemingly gone are the talks of an alleged continuation that would've seen Chris Hemsworth return as Captain Kirk's long-dead father; instead, we now have utterly weird ideas like this one floating around the Trek universe-one that operates in uncertain times, at least on the silver screen. At this point, we can't even begin to imagine what Tarantino's Trek is going to be about. Abrams, and that Abrams loved it so much he convinced Paramount to assemble a writers room.

This is a relatively wild path for the Star Trek movie franchise to go down in a post-Beyond world, but it's not like there isn't precedent for it-this year's Star Trek: Discovery, which drew controversy from fans for some scenes of violence and two characters using "fuck" as an expletive, was rated TV-MA, the equivalent of an R-rating for movies.

Stewart starred as Picard in "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which aired from 1987 to 1994.
