XPO Logistics Honored with Glassdoor Employees' Choice Award in the UK

Much to its gains, Facebook (FB) may have redeemed itself with the No. 1 spot on Glassdoor's "100 Best Places to Work in the U.S." this year, but Apple (AAPL) was lucked out.

According to Glassdoor, the ranking system is based on "a proprietary awards algorithm", which is created to calculate the "quantity, quality, and consistency of company reviews submitted by employees between November 1, 2016, and October 22, 2017".

This year, the Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards feature six distinct categories, honouring the Best Places to Work across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. "As we look to continue to lead our industry, there are tremendous opportunities for people in all areas of our company to grow professionally, do meaningful work and impact our customers".

"Reviews include employees' opinions on some of the best reasons to work for their employer, any downsides, advice to management, and whether they'd recommend their employer to a friend", Business Insider reported, adding that employees also rated how satisfied they are with their "employer overall, their CEO, and key workplace attributes like career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture, and values".

Among Glassdoor's 25 Best Places to Work, Manulife was the only insurance company - and came in at ranking #21 on the list.

The top five employers according to the rankings all have ratings of 4.6 - higher than the Glassdoor average of 3.3 (based on 700,000 employers). Employees are positive on Apple's great benefits, fantastic colleagues to work with, and the fact that many are able to work from home.

When it comes to "cons" for working at Apple, several employees who anonymously reviewed the company on Glassdoor said the iPhone maker is "strapped for resources" and "offers a poor work-life balance".
