Acer's new Swift 7 claims 'world's thinnest laptop' crown

Reports are coming that this laptop is going to be the world's thinnest laptop which is coming up with 8.98mm measures. All these notebooks will be showcased for the first time at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

But LTE aside, it's hard to look at the starting price tag of $1,699, and not consider something like the Dell XPS 13 or Lenovo Yoga 920, both of which sacrifice the Swift 7's thinness for newer Intel processors, more RAM and storage space, and higher resolution touchscreens at lower price points.

Of the three new models, the one that sticks out most is the Swift 7.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Swift 7 spots a 14-inch Full HD IPS touch display with the resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, which is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass. We are sure that you all are going to love the laptop for sure. Rather disappointingly the laptop has a seventh-generation Kaby Lake Core i7 processor rather than the new Coffee Lake chips, not that the older chips are particular slouches when it comes to performance.

We were slightly taken aback by the price of the Swift 7, which stats at $1,699, which is around £1,250m though we'd buy a hat and eat it if Acer chose to do such a direct price exchange; we reckon the Swift 7 will start at around the £1,400 price mark. Those in EMEA regions can expect the laptop to arrive in April starting at €1,699.

Acer Swift 7, Nitro 5, Spin 3, and Chromebook 11 have been announced at the CES 2018 tech trade show. The Spin 3 boasts Intel's eighth-generation processors, and Acer claims up to 12 hours of battery life. Acer has also shrunk down the display from a 15.6-inch panel to a 14-inch 1080p display for a smaller overall form factor, although true to the "Spin" name, it still rotates around to convert into a tablet. Acer hasn't released a full spec sheet yet, but prices will start at $599 when the Spin 3 launches in February. The 15.6-inch laptop comes with up to 32GB DDR 4 RAM and up to 512GB of SSD drive.

For gamers, the Nitro 5 has been updated with AMD Radeon RX560 graphics and Ryzen processors. The Nitro 5 will be available in the market for $799 ( or approx Rs 50,628). The Nitro 5 launches in April.
