After Pak's 'no case' remark, US says prosecute 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed

To a query about Hafiz Saeed, the spokesperson said, "We regard him as a terrorist, a part of a foreign terrorist organization".

The Pakistan Prime Minister, in a recent interview to Geo TV, said that there was no case registered against Saeed in Islamabad and without it, action can not be initiated against him.

Pakistan has been made aware of the US' reservations, she added. "We believe that this individual should be prosecuted".

The US has sent a message to Islamabad to conduct precise operation against Saeed, Heather Nauert - the spokesperson for the US Department of State - stated.

The United States has slammed Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's comment on Hafiz Saeed and said clearly the, Hafiz Saeed is a terrorist and should be persecuted to the fullest extent.

US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert. The US has a $10 million reward for information on Saeed. And the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), a terror group Saeed's affiliated too, is designated a foreign terror organisation by the United Nations, as well. LeT was responsible for carrying the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people. She did say that the United States government was expecting the Pakistani government to curb the terrorism in their state and outside too.

Two months later, the Donald Trump administration went a step further by revoking its $1.1 billion in security aid to Pakistan, although Washington later said the move wasn't related to Saeed's release.

Early this month, the USA suspended about United States dollars 2 billion worth of security assistance to Pakistan accusing it of not doing enough in the fight against terrorism. "Time has come for the world to cooperate and India needs to take a leading role with us in orchestrating a global response on Pakistan to take concrete actions to increase pressure".

"Oh! There is plenty of evidence".

The former Afghan president said this while attending the 2018 Raisina Dialogue in the national capital.

The top American leadership, therefore, wants a permanent solution to the Hafiz Saeed issue, instead of repetitive house arrests. He was placed under the same in January 2017.

Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was released from house arrest in November previous year, after the Lahore High Court rejected the Punjab government's plea seeking a three-month extension on his detention.
