Alabama and Georgia will square off for national title

Two teams from the same conference had never made the College Football Playoff in the same year before Georgia and Alabama this year.

As it turns out, no one did a great job of containing anyone's offense.

The Bulldogs have been back in the Eastern time zone since Tuesday, when they returned following Monday's 54-48 win over Oklahoma in double overtime. "But they can say what they want". Mayfield shoved Sanders out of bounds to prevent a pick-6, but Javon Wims caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from freshman Jake Fromm for the tie-breaking score with 13:57 to play.

Typically throwing them or running for them, Mayfield showed off his wide receiver skills as well. He was also sacked five times overall. Georgia gashed Oklahoma on the ground for 182 yards on 11 carries.

In summary: 221 yards from scrimmage, 15 touches, four touchdowns and 14.7 yards per touch leading to Rose Bowl offensive player of the game honors.

For a first half, it was as ideal as it could be for the Oklahoma offense. Georgia had some early success as well.

The touchdown gave Oklahoma a 31-17 lead over Georgia at halftime.

"We encouraged them while they were out there to kind of try to stay around Central time if they could", Smart said Tuesday afternoon on a teleconference.

The Heisman Trophy victor certainly did his part, completing 13 of 18 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown, but he showed he also knew how to catch the ball as well, when he snagged a 2-yard pass from wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with six seconds to play until half.

The Bulldogs sent the game into overtime on Nick Chubb's 2-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds left in regulation.

The flamboyant and celebratory Mayfield is a great player, but another version of the Heisman victor appears when the Sooners have faced adversity. The Bulldogs did just that with a Sony Michel 27-yard rushing touchdown. While Mayfield possesses incredible leadership traits, his antics sometimes overshadow the positive things he brings to the table, raising a red flag for National Football League teams in the process. He also added 41 yards and another touchdown on four catches. Georgia took its first lead of the day, 38-31.

But the Dawgs weren't going away without a fight.

Oklahoma had 531 yards total offense. Georgia lost two yards on a running play before Michel broke through the left side for his fourth score.

Check out the highlight package above for Michel's game-winner and the Sooners' stunning fumble return TD. Tae Crowder pounced on a poor squib kick to give Georgia the ball at midfield. Win.

There were so many moments when the Dawgs could have chose to quit, that the game was out of reach. There were six seconds left in the half, and Oklahoma was set to receive the kickoff to open the second half. He's done more than enough to prove himself worthy of a first-round pick. But rather than push the ball downfield, the Sooners played it safe and had to punt. It came down to the last play, and we didn't make the play.

Its defense held Georgia to a field goal on overtime's first series, and OU's Austin Seibert forced another period when he nailed a 33-yard attempt. But when they tried to kick another in the second it was blocked.

"I'm really disappointed and upset".

Mayfield, who had been ill, looked sprightly in the first half, throwing two touchdown passes and catching a third.
