Toyota said Tuesday that it plans to embed the retail giant's voice-activated assistant in some of its Toyota and Lexus cars this year without specifying which models. The popularity of Alexa in homes has led many observers and analysts to conclude that it could bring voice in vehicle to a new level.

Just which Toyota and Lexus models will have Amazon Alexa hasn't been announced, the automaker told The Car Connection in an email.

At the Consumer Electronics Show yesterday, Amazon announced that Toyota will be the latest and largest automaker to integrate Alexa into its cars.

Alexa, an intelligent personal assistant developed by Amazon will be hitting Windows 10 PCs later this year.

Amazon is integrating the Alexa virtual assistant into more non-Amazon devices, including desktop and laptop computers from several manufacturers, a line of Kohler products and new vehicle models, according to The Verge and other publications covering the announcements coming out of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. Current users won't be missing out on Alexa, as they have promised that Alexa will be made available on select devices through updates. This feature will allow Toyota and Lexus customers in the U.S. to interact with Alexa in the vehicle. In typical Vuzix fashion, there's a floating screen running Android, offering visual assistance to your voice commands.

Interestingly, the announcement came from Panasonic, the first company off the blocks to partner with Amazon and it said the feature can function even if there is no internet connectivity. Alexa has proved to be compatible with many smart devices and will be an easier way to connect your home than trying to hack together a solution with several different apps or assistants.
