Chris Matthews Joked About 'Cosby Pill' for Hillary Clinton in Leaked Video

Precious waters?' asks Matthews at the top of the tape, putting on a posh accent as he is handed a bottle of water that had been set aisde for Clinton. Then he said, "where's that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?".

Cosby has been accused by scores of women of sexual assault - often with the use of date-rape pills.

Clearly, Matthews thought he had delivered a clever line.

The Hardball host laughs, as some of the staffers setting up the interview around him gasp or laugh in disbelief at the joke.

A woman in the background appears stunned as she looks up from a phone call and utters, "whoa". Mr. Matthews made the offending comment as he was prepping for an interview with Mrs. Clinton at an Iowa fire station during the Democratic primary season on January 5, 2016, The Cut reported.

The clip is another strike for Matthews, who saw colleague Mark Halperin and fellow NBC star Matt Lauer dismissed from their respective positions last fall as part of the massive sexual harassment reckoning that's still shaking the media industry.

"This was a bad comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines", Matthews told the publication "I realize that's no excuse".

'I realize that's no excuse. "I deeply regret it and I'm sorry".

Matthews, who has hosted MSNBC's Hardball since 1997, has a history of making sexist remarks toward Clinton. The Daily Caller reported that the company settled with the woman for $40,000.

"He would objectify them and interrupt them in a way that he would never do to his male guests".

In 1999, a female assistant producer received a monetary payment after accusing Matthews of "inappropriate comments and jokes about her in front of others".
