Cup run could boost Swansea — Bartley

Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal hailed Jordan Ayew's moment of brilliance after his team sealed their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Wolves. Although the stakes were not almost so high here, and the crowd was nothing like as big - only 8,294 braved the elements on a sodden night in South Wales - it was still a terrific goal from Ayew as he wriggled his way past five Wolves players before finishing with aplomb.

It was Ayew who opened the scoring with a winderful solo effort 11 minutes in, but after Diogo Jota fired Wolves level in the second half, Bony's close range strike settled matters.

The hosts are now bottom of the Premier League while Nuno Espirito Santo's side are in a great position to win promotion to the top flight with a ten-point cushion at the top of the Championship.

29-year-old Gaitan has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Everton, West Ham United and Southampton, and he could cost in the region of £25m, but he would certainly strengthen a forward line of Tammy Abraham and Wilfried Bony, who have struggled to try of late to help Swansea away from the bottom three.

"The first leg should have finished there because we were the better team and had the better chances, but we showed again we are ready to compete against anyone".

Wolves immediately set about looking for a second goal and Jota nearly made it two in as many minutes with a 20-yard effort which went narrowly wide, but just one minute after that the visitors found themselves behind again. Chelsea, who are tied with Liverpool with the fourth-most FA Cups in their history (7), lost out to Arsenal in last season's final at Wembley Stadium.

Swansea, in fairness, started brightly. Roque Mesa, out of favour since Carvalhal's appointment, was orchestrating things in midfield and it was no real surprise when Ayew put them ahead with that terrific goal. "Ricky Villa? I don't know that [goal]", said Carvalhal.

The home team had a couple of chances to add to their lead in the first half. Running on to Bony's pass the wing-back tried to slip the ball under Will Norris but the Wolves goalkeeper got down quickly to save.

"We didn't come out well, but we reacted and the second half was much better than the first", said Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo. Showing some neat footwork Jota sat one defender on his backside before squeezing a low shot inside Kristoffer Nordfeldt's near post.

An initial look at Andre Silva would have many scratching their head on why he would move to Swansea City, but the Welsh side have become front-runners to get the AC Milan striker, as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
