Gal Gadot sparks controversy for flaunting dress designed by Lebanese brand

Gal Gadot was awarded the #SeeHer Award at tonight's Critics' Choice Awards in recognition of the impact her career-and turn as Wonder Woman-has made in helping "push boundaries on changing stereotypes and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape" (per the #SeeHer movement's press release, via Buzzfeed).

It wasn't a surprise when the Lebanese cinemas banned Gadot's superhero film Wonder Woman.

It wasn't the thigh-high slit that drew people's attention, but the fact that Gadot, an Isreali actress, was wearing a dress designed by a Lebanese fashion designer.

When Gadot was originally announced as the recipient in December, the Association of National Advertisers - which sponsored the award - called her a "powerful voice advocating for women, not only on screen as the iconic Wonder Woman but in life as well".

More than 60 Israeli soldiers and six Israeli civilians were also killed in the conflict. Gadot's Instagram post from the awards ceremony didn't mention the designer. The Wonder Woman looked stunning in the blue sash dress at the National Board of Review Awards Gala earlier this week but not everyone thought so. She did it for us.' Patty explained of Gal.

The best thing about this look? With a range of options from the likes of Forever Unique and Lanvin, there's something to suit every budget.

"Although this is progress, there is still a long way to go", she said. Gadot has served in the Israeli army as a combat trainer for two years and Lebanon's Ministry of Economy issued the ban just before the film was scheduled to premiere.

It was blocked by the government because of the star's nationality and her support for Israel's army, it was reported at the time.
