Google merges Android Pay and Google Wallet to introduce Google Pay

The company will combine both Android Pay, which was announced back in 2015, and its Google Wallet to create this new platform.

Android Pay is one the most popular and widely used smartphone-based secure payment systems.

There wasn't too much detail given to the way Google Pay will work, but according to the blog post the digital payment system will make payments "simpler, safer, and more consistent". In fact, the update will push all the functionality of the Google Pay service to the native Google Tez app without affecting the original platform which is a good thing for the existing users of the Google Tez app.

Google Wallet started in 2011 and enabled people to send money to direct email addresses or phone numbers linked to the recipient account. The company also mentioned offering a new service for making payments to friends via Google Pay and India-exclusive Google Tez. So instead of Google Wallet or Android Pay, keep in mind to pay thru Google Pay. Starting Monday, all Google users and Google device owners only need to think about Google Pay. Over the coming weeks, you'll see Google Pay online, in-store, and across Google products, as well as when you're paying friends*. In December 2017, Apple also launched the person to person payments for the Apple Pay customers in the U.S.

Developers are also encouraged to implement the mobile payment service on their apps, stores, and websites. Now, the Google has announced a new payment system named Google Pay. The tech giant is looking to expand its brand name, and naming its products and services with the Google logo is one sure way to make that happen.

Google Pay is already rolling out and is available from different companies including Airbnb, Fandango, Instacart, HungryHouse, Dice, and others.
