Hugh Grant upset by his son's reaction to Paddington 2

So Paddington decides to get a job to pay for it. On the surface level, the script by King and Simon Farnaby (Yonderland) preaches generosity and kindness towards others in a way that audiences of all ages can understand and appreciate, all while serving up a tightly woven narrative full of amusing and touching moments alike.

Promoting Paddington 2 at a special screening hosted by The Moms co-founders Melissa Gerstein and Denise Albert, the 54-year-old actor beamed as he posed clutching a toy replica of the Peruvian bear. Ask any parent whose kids have gotten hooked on the never-ending stream of Minions and Smurfs how horrifying the prospect of a children's sequel can be, since the target audience will gobble it up no matter how lazy the construction is.

The light and frothy story this time revolves around the cuddly Paddington (the voice of Ben Wishaw, who's delightful) as he settles into domestic bliss living with his adoptive London family. You'll still get that message with the adventurous zest, and colorful visuals that Paddington traded in. Bond, who died in 2016, couldn't have asked for a better send-off. Brace yourself to drown into every furrow of Paddington's brow or feel the upward curve of your lips when the camera pans into his black nose that's irresistibility tactile. And so he starts off the new film the same way everyone else in the Western world starts their days: craving disposable income. The lovingly detailed tome takes the reader on a 3-D tour of London - the flawless birthday gift for Paddington's Anglophile Aunt Lucy, on the verge of turning 100 at the home for retired bears. As we see in a gloriously animated sequence, in which Paddington finds himself happily lost amid the book's three-dimensional pages, it's the flawless gift for someone who, like Lucy, always wanted to visit the city but never got the chance.

Alas, the real flesh-and-blood London soon rescinds its welcome.

When the book is stolen the blame gets pointed at Paddington, where eventually he gets sent to prison. Peter Capaldi's odious neighborhood watchman, delighted to have cause for trumpeting his bigoted worldview, spits out Paddington's adopted surname -"Brown"- like the slur he wants it to be. Paddington (once again voiced by Ben Whishaw) is settled in his new home with the Browns (Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville). How Paddington clears his name alongside the Brown family's amateur detective work and the help from his rough but soft-hearted friends from the prison, forms the witty, albeit slender narrative thread.

Just like the original film made an impassioned case for accepting and welcoming immigrants, this edition makes a plea for kindness, civility and looking for the good in people.

A wild adventure lands our hero in prison (Brendan Gleeson is a hoot as a hardened cook whom Paddington befriends), but the penitentiary walls are no match for Paddington's charms.

The star of the story is entirely animated though, and the Downton Abbey star was keen to talk about how they deal with that on set: 'As far as I'm concerned the bear is real, sometimes he doesn't come out of his trailer because he's on a marmalade hit'. Sure, Anderson's influence may be old hat by now, but for kids who haven't yet enjoyed the pleasures of The Grand Budapest Hotel, this will be the flawless stepping stone. But to make up for the oversight, this sequel improves on the first in the physical comedy department. His attempts at barbering and window washing are like watching a furry Mr. Bean, a hapless clown whose situation grows worse the more he tries to fix it.
