IED defused at HMT, 2 injured in army firing

Police and the Army detected an improvised electronic device (IED) on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway near HMT on Saturday.

In occupied Kashmir, two innocent citizens were injured after Indian troops opened fire in HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday.

"During the operation, services of dog squad and bomb squad were also pressed into service".

Traffic was later restored on the highway. The Bomb disposal unit reached the spot to disable the armed device. The official said the area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted.

Giving details, he said that a patrol party of 44 BN CRPF recovered the IED on the highway around 4 am.

Recently, four policemen were killed in a powerful IED explosion in Sopore town in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

He said the army men manning the naka signalled a vehicle to stop.

"We have registered a case in the incident and launched investigations", he added.
