Little fanfare as ANC leaders arrive for January 8 statement

"South Africans deserve a capable President who will act in their best interest at all times‚ not someone who abuses their power and steals from the people".

"Political parties are the key engine in ensuring people-to-people connection", said President Kenyatta.

President Zuma and his supporters have also reportedly demanded that some of his key cabinet appointments, such as energy minister David Mahlobo and state security minister Bongani Bongo be retained in Ramaphosa's new cabinet.

The President commended the ANC leader for following in the footsteps of the founding fathers of the ruling party, saying the message of unity resonates well with their ideals.

"South Africa is open for investment and we invite all investors from all over the world to come to South Africa to invest in our country so that we can grow our economy, create jobs, end poverty", Ramaphosa told tens of thousands of cheering ANC members in a stadium in the Eastern Cape province.

Meanwhile, according to Magashule, the issue was not discussed.

The organisation said in light of Israel's recent "blacklist" of BDS South Africa and it's membership, they would be engaging with the ANC to propose the imposition of stricter visa regulations for Israelis, as per the 2004 Non Aligned Movement resolution.

He said the two countries have a lot to share in exploitation and development of natural resources for the benefit of their citizens.

Because neither Ramaphosa or Zuma appears willing to concede the talks are said to have reached something of a stalemate as the ANC prepares to begin the new year in earnest.

President Jacob Zuma attended the event as an ex officio member of the ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC).

Mr Ramaphosa, a former trade unionist who became one of South Africa's richest black businessmen, emerged victorious in a party election last month over the candidate backed by Mr Zuma - who is officially due to end his second and final term as president in 2019.
