Razer's Project Linda is an elegant Android smartphone and laptop love

While Project Linda is now only a concept, it looks to be pretty polished and there's a chance it could make it to the market unlike previous Razer concept tech.

Gaming hardware giant Razer is again catching eyes at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with the unveiling of a design concept for an Android-powered gaming-and-productivity smartphone which docks into a laptop chassis: Project Linda. It is inspired by Asus's Transformer Book V convertibles, which allowed users to slide in their Asus smartphone into the notebook dock and mirror the smartphone's Android interface on a bigger screen.

Project Linda has you dock the Razer Phone inside the laptop's frame, where a touchpad typically would be located. The Razer Phone 5.7-inch display can be used as a touchpad, or as a second screen for access to apps, tools, and more.

As much as this is great news for gamers though, anyone who finds themselves doing a lot of work with a tethered phone could find use of it, letting their devices share battery life, use a hardwired networking connection to add LTE Advanced connectivity to their laptop without traditional Wi-Fi hotspot tethering, and massively cutting down on the cost of the laptop itself. The phone's Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 mobile platform and 8 GB of RAM deliver responsive performance, instantly transforming Project Linda into an Android laptop.

In addition, Project Linda features a full-size keyboard with Razer Chroma backlighting, a 13.3-inch Quad HD touchscreen, and a 53.6 Wh internal battery that charges the phone while docked. It has a similar aluminium chassis, backlit keyboard and Razer logo at the back which glows when the notebook is on. Even with the smartphone docked in, it weighs just 1.25kg, which is at par with most ultra-thin notebooks with a 13-inch screen.

Project Linda was shown off for the first time at this year's CES and is now just in the conceptual phase.
