Subaru teases VIZIV Performance STi concept

While we only have one angle, it's clear the STI Concept is an evolution of the VIZIV Performance Concept we saw at the Tokyo Motor Show back in October.

Hopefully, we'll find out more when the VIZIV Performance STI Concept makes its official debut. Subaru's Design Chief Mamoru Ishii has already hinted the Viziv Performance concept was a sneak preview for the WRX fast sedan, so we can only imagine the addition of the STI means the Tokyo Auto Salon concept is the first showcase of the upcoming WRX STI. However, the new WRX and WRX STI were recently said to be scheduled for 2020 and that they could utilize some form of hybrid propulsion system. While most of the vehicle is still hidden in the photo, we do see the signature STI red/pink accents and logos added throughout the body. While technical details have not been announced, the images released show that the VIZIV has sprouted spoilers, intakes, splitters, large alloy wheels and flared wheel arches, along with plenty of red detailing and an aggressive front-end treatment. Winglets can also be seen protruding from the sides of the rear wing, presumably to improve the airflow. As regards for its engine, it is uncertain whether the Japanese automaker will be keeping the aging 2.5-liter EJ25 boxer engine for the next-generation WRX STI.

This STI Performance Concept may not shed much light on specific details regarding future product, but acts to reaffirm Subaru's commitment to the STI brand and a new generation of upcoming performance models. It is likely to use a newer turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine.
