The US Vice President Made a Surprising Visit to Afghanistan

Vice President of the United States Mike Pence made a highly secretive visit to Afghanistan on Thursday to meet with US troops, as well as with senior Afghan leaders to discuss Trump's strategy for the region. Pence said that Trump has "put Pakistan on notice" and that the country has much to lose if it continues to harbor terrorists.

"The Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church declines to receive American Vice President Mike Pence", a statement said, adding that Trump's decision "did not take into account the feelings of millions of Arab people".

For safety reasons, the trip was kept secret.

Vice President Mike Pence will return to IN for the Christmas weekend, our CBS affiliate IN Indianapolis reports.

The visit comes unannounced, after Pence this week cancelled a trip to the Middle East following President Donald Trump's announcement that the USA would recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "The president also commended the continued support of the USA for the people and government of Afghanistan", the presidential palace said in a statement.

Both lines earned him some of the loudest applause of the night.

Videographer and viral meme master Victor Bergermeister also joined in on the fun, tweeting that Pence "kisses Trump's ass" during the meeting. "You are heroes", he said. "And until that day comes, you can be assured, we will be relentless in our campaign to destroy our enemies".

He reflected on the start of this war 16 years ago - when many in the audience were just children - and reflected on the "forces of Islamic terror" that plotted the September 11 attacks.

He then gave thanks for "the unity in Congress" that it "will spread even beyond party lines so that people recognize that we have a nation that is worth saving and recognize that nations divided against themselves can not stand". "We've targeted the Taliban's funding as never before through renewed attacks on its drug trafficking networks", Pence said.

As he thanked the U.S. troops for their service, the vice president told them that they have put the Taliban on the run.

It was also reported that Pence discussed both the implementation of the new U.S. strategy in Afghanistan and the country's upcoming parliamentary elections slated for July 2018. He said the USA armed forces will remain engaged in Afghanistan until elimination of the terrorist threat once and for all. The U.S. and Afghans are battling the Taliban and militants linked to al-Qaida and ISIS.
