Watch the first teaser trailer for HBO's Fahrenheit 451

Speaking at a panel during the TCA winter press tour, Bahrani - along with actress Sofia Boutella (her co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon were late-notice cancellations on the panel) - explained the "paramount" effect the internet had on his adaptation. In a terrifying care-free future, a young man, Guy Montag, whose job as a fireman is to burn all books, questions his actions after meeting a young girl...and begins to rebel against society.

Perhaps Bradbury's best-known work, "Fahrenheit 451" was published in 1953 at the height of the Cold War and America's "Red Scare", during which people with dissenting viewpoints - communists and sympathizers - were demonized and marginalized.

The film is being directed, co-written and produced by Ramin Bahrani, who also also directed Shannon in the criminally underseen 99 Homes.

The firemen are aided by robotic "hounds", that can sniff out book lovers and pursue them should they flee, injecting a tranquilizer with their bites. This week, the premium television network shared a teaser trailer for the upcoming flick.

I've been a proud self-proclaimed sci-fi geek from about as soon as I could even form the words "science-fiction", and as such I've tried to read just about all the big must-read genre classics like Frank Herbert's Dune, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Isaac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, Joe Haldeman's Forever War, etc. A menacing fireman in a black helmet holds a flamethrower. "I really wanted Toni Morrison, because I love Toni Morrison". While all of these are incredible in their own right, few have left an impression on me as much as Fahrenheit 451.

The movie script for "Fahrenheit 451" has something like stage directions, but it's more like narration, Cherne said.

The teaser highlights the most vivid part of the novel, showing a burning copy of Crime and Punishment that's dropped onto a pile of other controversial books, which is set on fire by a firefighter yielding a flamethrower. It will be interesting to see how the new movie updates Bradbury's story to tackle the modern media landscape. Be sure to tell us all of your thoughts in the comments! The glimmer of hope in the dystopian gloom is Guy Montag's dawning sense of curiosity, which causes him to push back against society's brainwashing.
