Weiner and Abedin Appear to Salvage Scandal-plagued Marriage

Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and disgraced former lawmaker Anthony Weiner have chose to negotiate their divorce privately.

Abedin filed for divorce from her estranged husband in May after he pleaded guilty to sexting with a minor.

According to the report, Abedin had originally been schedule to appear for a compliance conference in regard to the divorce, which was listed as contested.

The judge announced from the bench that the case was "discontinued".

The former congressman is now serving almost two years in federal prison.

The couple withdrew the proceeding from the New York court where it was being heard, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

"In order to ensure the proceedings have a minimal impact on their child, the parties have made a decision to finalize their divorce swiftly and privately", her attorney Charles Miller said. Instead one of her attorneys submitted paperwork signed by both parties agreeing to end the case, a court source told The Post. Two years later, in the midst of Weiner's second run for New York City mayor, screenshots of an explicit conversation between Weiner and a 22-year-old woman surfaced on a gossip website.

In September, 53-year-old Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in jail.
