What You Need to Know About the 2018 Women's March

Hundreds of thousands took to the streets of New York, Washington and other cities on Saturday for Women's March protests that marked the first anniversary of Trump's presidency.

Paula Beaty, 53, a tech worker from Durham, North Carolina, attended the Las Vegas rally wearing an outfit recalling the women's suffrage movement of the early 20th century. Women of color and transgender supporters voiced their concern over heightened police presence and reports that attendees would be subjected to random police searches.

"Unprecedented success for our Country, in so many ways, since the Election".

As we look back at the year that unfolded, it's plain women have made their presence known and their voices heard in a variety of ways. Rally leaders here were launching a drive aimed at registering 1 million voters nationwide, and volunteers flanked the edges of the crowd entering Sam Boyd Stadium offering to register voters. Democratic Idaho state Rep. Paulette Jordan, a member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, drew an vast cheer when she told the crowd she was running to be not only Idaho's first female governor, but the first Native American woman to be governor in any state.

Lisa Paz, 36, showed up in support of her mother, Alexis Jimenez, who is running for a seat in New Mexico's state Legislature.

"This is Idaho's future". But, she said, after having kids and becoming busier, she was less involved in the 2016 election.

And the men came out in full force, too, showing their allyship with women.

"This is one of the worst times in our history and that's why I honestly believe that women are going to be the ones that fix it", Cher told the crowd.

The Women's March movement - which started in January 2017 in protest at the inauguration of Trump - has been galvanized by the #MeToo movement, widely credited with countering sexual abuse and misconduct.

In Austin, thousands of individuals were expected to gather at city hall and the state Capitol for what was to be a series of day long events, including a rally against Trump and a rally defending abortion and other reproductive rights.

Speakers across the nation criticized President Trump and vowed to protect women's rights, the environment and American ideals of free speech, religious freedom and tolerance. Organizers said the event was meant to kick-start a nationwide drive to register a million new voters and get more female candidates running for office in time to oust President Donald Trump supporters in November's midterm elections to Congress.

"Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months", the Republican wrote. Whereas confidence in US leadership has fallen from 48 percent to 30 percent within the past year, approval with German leadership remains unchanged at 41 percent. The Women's March is an incredibly inspirational event for a lot of people.

After Trump's election, she's become more politically active again and plans to work on upcoming local elections. In London, thousands rallied from Downing Street, home of Prime Minister Theresa May, to a memorial to women in World War II. Heavy rain fell on Paris protesters who gathered near the Eiffel Tower, which could have been a factor in the small number of participants compared to the USA marches on Saturday. At one point they stopped in the middle of an intersection.
