White House: Trump has not seen the Federal Bureau of Investigation memo

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, who oppose the GOP memo release, have argued that the memo is just the latest chapter - an attempt to stir up controversy over investigators who are looking into the President's finances, his campaign's interactions with Russian Federation and actions in office that could amount to obstruction of justice.

After the House Intelligence Committee voted to release a classified memo created by Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), Republicans lauded the vote as a victory while Democrats criticized it as a political deception.

Within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, some of Steele's work was eventually incorporated into a 2016 application to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to conduct surveillance on Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser, according to people familiar with the matter.

He added that calls for deputy attorney general Rod J. Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller's probe, to step down were also misplaced.

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray has since had an opportunity to review the memo, though it has not been vetted by the FBI's in-house lawyers, according to people familiar with the matter.

Lawmakers who have reviewed the classified memo in a secured room say it shows "what role the unverified anti-Trump "dossier" played in the application for a surveillance warrant on at least one Trump associate", Fox News reported.

Elements of Schiff's memo will likely need to be redacted if it is publicly released, sources said. According to a report by the New York Times, referring to contentions said to be in the House Intelligence Committee memo, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein may be in the thick of it as well.

The Daily Signal requested comment from the White House on the potential timing of its release, but did not receive a response by publication deadline. On Monday, the committee voted to make the Democratic memo available to all House members - but not the public.

The White House, which has a maximum of five days to object to the memo's release, said it would "conduct a legal and national security review" before the president makes the decision.

Republican members of the #House Intelligence Committee voted in favor of releasing the memo [VIDEO] that entails evidence of the #FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) spying on President Donald #trump during his campaign and prior to his swearing-in. "The president has not seen or been briefed on the memo or reviewed its contents", Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

Several Republicans and conservative pundits have seized on the memo as a reason to question the underpinnings and legitimacy of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's ongoing probe of alleged connections between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. But one of the people familiar with the decision to delay it said it was premature to schedule it this week because discussions have only just started with the White House over what Bannon can tell the committee.

President Donald Trump leaves the House of Representatives Chamber after delivering his first State of the Union Address before a joint session of Congress on January 30, 2018 in Washington, DC.
