WWE SmackDown Live results: (1/09/2018)

This week's episode of WWE SmackDown Live featured some interesting developments as another title match was added to the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and more names were confirmed for the upcoming Royal Rumble matches. Bryan said he could say the same thing about Shane and brought up the McMahon's history of impetuous decisions. AJ says he'll beat both Zayn and Owens in the same night.

Styles defends his WWE Championship against Owens and Zayn in a Handicap Match at the Royal Rumble on January 28.

This could lead to the split of Owens' and Zayn's friendship as they couldn't decide between themselves who should win the title, allowing Styles to pin one of them unexpectedly to retain. And of course, then Shan McMahon comes out.

- The show opened with AJ Styles being interviewed by Renee Young. Flanked by Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan as she battled Ruby Riott, Becky Lynch had some backup of her own to rely on at least, as Naomi and Charlotte Flair had her corner. Becky was able to lock in the Dis-Arm-Her for the win which... kind of makes the Riott Squad look like a bunch of chumps, don't ya think?

The Bludgeon Brothers def. No one cared for the match, which is kind of sad considering how popular Ryder used to be. I don't like either of these guys, and Mojo annoys me to no end.

Rawley won in a quick match to advance in the tournament bracket.

JUSTICE! That's what Chad Gable and SHelton Benjamin were after, what with their SmackDown Tag Team Championship last week having been restarted after shenanigans saw them fail to usurp the throne of the Usos. Catching the super-athlete in a roll-up, Rusev's day wasn't worth celebrating at all.

Kevin Owens slammed Randy Orton with a steel chair. Good enough match, though it was a bit of a sloppy cluster at parts.

Following the announcement of the match, The Prizefighter and The Underdog from the Underground have reacted to their match against the WWE Champion at the Royal Rumble at a recent WWE live event in Jackson, Mississippi, sending a bold message to Styles and Shane McMahon. Then, Kevin Owens came in and took everyone out with a chair. Logic tells AJ the longer the match goes, the less chance he has of winning. Owens calls him the regretful AJ Styles or the remorseful AJ Styles.
