Cavs' LeBron James to produce reboot of 'House Party'

Cavs' LeBron James to produce reboot of 'House Party'

However, LeBron has told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming "House Party" remake is "definitely not a reboot". Instead, the House Party movies became vehicles for young rising black stars like Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell, as well as the feature film debut for R&B stars like Queen Latifah, TLC, and Immature.

In between adjusting with new teammates, LeBron James continues to make power moves off the court. Now, almost 30 years later, Springhill Ent. and Atlanta writers Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori are set to pen a new screenplay.

The Cavs all-star and his business partner Maverick Carter are producing the House Party reboot through their company Springhill Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He relished the thought of bringing "a new House Party to a new generation" as "unbelievable".

Each film in the series has starred 1980s and 90s hip-hop act "Kid n' Play", whose popularity boomed in part because of the film franchise and, in particular, one dance scene from the first film.

No word when to expect the new film, but don't also expect the "Space Jam" reboot any time soon, with Carter commenting it's "a ways off" yet.

The original "House Party" franchise featured rappers Kid and Play as high school friends throwing, you guessed it, a house party.

James has been making inroads into Hollywood over the past several years. Kobe Bryant is a 2018 Oscar nominee for the short documentary "Dear Basketball", and Steve Nash is producing a now untitled feature about the rise of ecstasy and rave culture in Texas during the Reagan administration.
