Donald Trump threatens to pull immigration officers off the California border

President Trump called-out the state of California and its "disgraceful" sanctuary cities Thursday over their refusal to cooperate with the federal government in reducing illegal immigration; threatening to remove ICE agents throughout the state if they continue to shelter undocumented workers from the agency.

"If I wanted to pull our people from California, you would have a crime mess like you've never seen in California", Trump said.

The San Ysidro border crossing is the busiest land port of entry in the entire Western Hemisphere, let alone the United States, and the California border is a major focus of preventing drug smuggling into the US.

Speaking at a meeting about gun control Friday, he blasted the state's "sanctuary" law that bars cops asking people about their immigration status.

'I am thinking of doing it'. "They are doing a lousy management job", he went on to say.

"There's no sanctuary from federal law enforcement". And yet we get no help from the state of California. "All I'd have to do is to say, 'ICE and Border Patrol, let California alone.' You'd be inundated".

Complaining that California was not complying with his hardline position on migrants, Trump warned he could cut vital help from Washington and prompt a crime wave.

Trump lashed out against California during remarks he made Thursday during a White House event on school safety. The Justice Department last month demanded that nearly two dozen cities, counties and states - from New York City to California - prove that they're sharing information about people in the country illegally or risk subpoenas and cuts in public-safety grants.

Defenders contend these practices improve public safety by promoting trust among law enforcement and immigrant communities, and set aside scarce police resources for other, more urgent crime-fighting needs.

"Let me be clear", Brown said at the time.

Before the shooting, the man had finished a federal prison sentence for illegal re-entry into the United States and was transferred to San Francisco's jail to face a 20-year-old charge for selling marijuana.
