Ex-Dolphin Jonathan Martin detained after Instragram post shuts school

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Kuey said the man in custody made no direct threat against the school and the investigation is ongoing. The caption read: "When you're a bully victim and a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge".

The TMZ story explained police "tracked down the former Miami Dolphins player Friday after he posted a photo on IG showing a shotgun and ammo-along with a threatening message and the names of former teammates and high school acquaintances".

The former offensive lineman attended Harvard-Westlake High School, a Los Angeles prep school, which was closed after city officials reportedly sent an alert around 7am local time warning students of a "security risk". After being detained by police on February 23, Martin was reportedly moved to a mental health facility for further examination.

The spokesperson was unable to confirm Martin's involvement and said they had no information about there suspect or a possible arrest.

In 2013, Martin left the team after seven games because he said that another offensive lineman, Richie Incognito, had repeatedly bullied him and used racist language.

Mr Martin was involved in a bullying incident during his second and final season with the Dolphins in 2013. Martin, who posted the image on his Instagram account on Thursday, did not explicitly threaten the school.

A 144-page report commissioned by the National Football League to explore allegations of bullying on the Dolphins found that Incognito and two fellow offensive linemen, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, "engaged in a pattern of harassment" toward Martin; another young offensive lineman; and an assistant trainer, including improper touching and sexual taunting.

Incognito was suspended for bullying Martin, other teammates and a team employee.

Incognito left voicemails on Martin's phone calling him a "half-n****r piece of s**t", threatening to slap his mother and even making death threats against Martin.

It is not clear whether Mr Martin posted the picture himself. The post prompted school officials to cancel class at Harvard-Westlake School for preventative measures.
