JAMB Investigates Missing Money Allegedly Swallowed By Snake

Less than a week after a mystery snake reportedly swallowed the sum of N36million realized from sale of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scratch cards by the examination body's sales clerk in Benue state, Philomena Chieshe, another fraud of N26m has been uncovered in its Nasarawa state office.

The Board has however vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to bringing the officer in charge to justice.

While responding to audit queries at the JAMB offices in Makurdi, capital of Benue State, an accounts clerk is reported to have claimed her house-help and a work colleague had admitted to using a snake to "spiritually" loot the cash that had been stored in an office vault.

According to Nigerian press, Ms Philomena Chieshe made the weird revelation while responding to an audit query at the JAMB offices in Makurdi, Benue State. "These are things the Registrar is trying to unravel to put the board on the right footing". Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the board would deploy all available resources to arrest and prosecute anyone found undermining the integrity of the board irrespective of who is involved.

He recalled that the Professor Ishaq Oloyede-led management had on assumption of duty embarked on a tour of the board's state offices to ascertain their actual financial standing and their general operations.

He stated: "We are not going to take lightly our fight against corruption no matter who is involved".

A sales clerk has been suspended after claiming thousands of pounds that went missing was actually eaten by a snake.

Benjamin said: "It is natural for the office to account for what they have after the sale of scratch cards has been stopped and we discovered that lots of money was missing in Markurdi and other offices".

"The Board will monitor with careful scrutiny, how entrusted staff handle government funds, as well as block all leakages and loopholes".
