Scottish police speak to French players over alleged brawl

France's players sing the national anthem before the Six Nations global rugby union match between Scotland and France at Murrayfield.

France have been delayed from returning home after their Six Nations match against Scotland after several of their players were called in for questioning by police following an alleged brawl in Edinburgh.

Police spoke to members of the French national rugby side as part of their inquiries into the incident, however the force has determined that no crime was committed.

According to reports their flight back to Paris was delayed after Scottish Police intervened at the airport.

The French squad had been due to leave Edinburgh Airport on Monday morning.

Reports in the media suggest the fight occured at the end of a night out in the Scottish capital following their team's 32- 26 defeat at the hands of Scotland in the Six Nations tournament.

A message sent at 11.46am from the French Rugby Federation's official Twitter account confirmed that some players were being questioned by police, adding: "We are waiting for further information".

Officers launched an investigation after reports of a sexual assault in Edinburgh City Centre on Monday morning.

"These inquiries have established that no crime has been committed".

It was earlier reported that police were investigating a fight that broke out in a bar between the French players and Scotland fans.
