Apple acquires digital magazine distributor Texture

The app Texture is often called 'the Netflix of magazine subscriptions, ' allowing users to read publications from all across the country for a low-priced monthly fee. Part of the goal of Apple News and acquiring Texture, he said, is to avoid "a lot of the issues" happening in the media today, such as the spread of inaccurate information on social media. Apple previously awarded the app an App Store reward back in 2016. Each issue is available in full but includes special formatting to improve its in-app presentation. Next Issue Media was created as a joint venture between publishers including Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp., Rogers Communications and Time Inc.

According to TechCrunch, the company appears to have raised at least US$90 million, of which US$40 million came from the publishers and US$50 million from private equity giant KKR. Apple already delivers curated news from third-party publishers through its Apple News platform.

He also worked in a plug about Rihanna's recent passing of the 2 billion-stream mark on Apple Music, which was heavily touted over the weekend. The company added that it is "committed to quality journalism", which suggests it will use Texture in an attempt to improve its standing with media organisations.

Apple announced on March 12 that it has acquired Texture for an undisclosed sum. Apple and representatives from Texture didn't respond to requests for comment. "We could not imagine a better home or future for the service". Texture will continue to operate independently, offering apps for iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire and Windows 8 and 10.

On stage at SXSW, Apple Senior VP of Internet Software and Services was asked if those investments meant that it would buy a major player like Netflix or Disney.
