CIA Director to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announcing on Twitter that he will be replaced by Central Intelligence Agency chief Mike Pompeo.

According to Washington Post, Trump asked Tillerson to resign Friday.

Tillerson had just returned from a shortened trip to Africa hours before Trump's announcement.

Gina Haspel, the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, will be nominated to replace Director Pompeo and she will be the CIA's first-ever female director, a historic milestone. She would become the CIA's first female director.

Tillerson also appeared out of the loop last week when Trump announced he would meet with North Korea's leader and become the first sitting USA president to do so.

Tillerson, a former Exxon Mobile CEO, has always been rumored to be unhappy with Trump's constant undermining of the State Department's stance on issues. He was approved by the full Senate on a 56-43 vote mostly along party lines on February 1.

The President and Tillerson were at odds on a number of worldwide issues.

The Texas graduate in civil engineering worked 41 years at Exxon, rising from an engineer to become CEO in 2006.
