Columnist criticised for saying Mohamed Salah looks like a terrorist

Real Madrid are interested in Liverpool star Mohamed Salah as a replacement for Gareth Bale, but have been told they would have to pay €160m (£142m) for the Egypt forward.

In an article published Sunday by the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram, Salah Montaser said Salah should shave his beard as it "puts him in one basket with extremists. and terrorists".

Many people in the social media reacted angrily to the article, bashing the journalist for acting stereotypical and insensitive to the player.

The Egypt worldwide has so far scored 24 goals in the English Premier League, being the joint-top scorer with Tottenham striker Harry Kane, and has a total of 32 goals in all competitions.

Salah, beard and all, will be hoping to claim the Golden Boot and with just eight league games remaining, he'll have his sights set on finding the back of the net against Watford.

The 25-year-old, who has been arguably the best player in the English top flight this season, joined the Reds at the beginning of the current campaign from Serie A side Roma, and has flourished ever since. Last October, Salah scored the goals that secured World Cup qualification for the first time since 1990.

Recently, the Egyptian won the African Footballer of the year award 2017, being a honour for his contribution in Liverpool's campaign as well as lifting Egypt to the World Cup scheduled for Russian Federation in June this year.
