Fresh calls for inquiry of child sex abuse in Telford

Girls as young as 11 were drugged, beaten, and raped in the western British town of Telford with up to 1,000 children estimated to have suffered abuse over 40 years, a British newspaper reported on Sunday. She also said what had been uncovered in her constituency was "extremely serious and shocking".

He was jailed for the murders - but was never arrested or charged over sex abuse.

Following allegations from victims that the sex abuse is still ongoing after almost 40-years, Tory MP Lucy Allan has demanded a public enquiry into the decades-long child abuse scandal.

Following the police probe into the abuse, called Operation Chalice, some of those responsible were brought to justice, including seven men who were banged up in 2013. "I thought they'd only be safe if I killed myself", said one victim, who attempted suicide. According to other victims, Lowe's brutal death was used as a warning to other girls.

In 2002 another schoolgirl - Becky Watson, 13 - was killed in an unexplained vehicle accident in the Shropshire town.

But the Mirror obtained the girl's diaries, where she talked about her two years of sexual abuse by an Asian grooming gang-since the age of 11.

Mum Torron Watson said she repeatedly told police that her daughter was being abused, even going as far as handing them a list of suspects.

"She had kept a tragic dairy which told of how she was forced to sleep around", and how the police treated her as the criminal.

The Sunday Mirror reported that the Assistant Chief Constable for West Mercia Police said more investigators will be assigned to cover horrific abuse cases. "I was crying out for help but it felt like I had nowhere to turn. If Becky's abuse had been properly investigated by the authorities more girls could have been saved from going through this hell".

The Labour leader of Telford & Wrekin Borough Council, Shaun Davies, told BBC Radio Shropshire the "shocking and appalling" allegations needed to be investigated.

"Telford will be covered by the national [child sexual exploitation] review. We welcome this. Allagencies continue to work very closely together and this remains our toppriority".
