Game of Thrones stars 'in tears' over ending

The Hollywood Reporter says that HBO's Senior Vice President of Drama made her comments at the Innovative TV Conference (INTV) in Jerusalem.

"None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started to fall down to their deaths", Orsi said.

Orsi said at the end of a read of the final six scripts everyone stood up and applauded for 15 to 20 minutes.

While continuing the show through "three, four, five" spinoffs was teased - with the alternative being compared to "corporate malfeasance" - the main draw here was the show's eighth and final season finale.

Pictures have also surfaced of a £1m castle set being built in Belfast, so expect this final season to be big.

The explosive panel continued as Orsi noted that the high costs of additional episodes of Big Little Lies, combined with a slew of potential Game of Thrones spin-offs, could result in financial difficulty if any of the planned Thrones spin-offs make it to series. "If that were today, the [Song of Ice and Fire] books would probably come in packaged with a director and we'd be held ransom for a full season order or probably two seasons, and the problem with that is to get it right we really did have to go through the development process". She admitted, however, that the choice to continue required major renegotiation with the show's cast, which includes that the transition from a one-season effort to a second season was a financial hurdle, requiring huge renegotiations with the cast, which includes Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

The executives also discussed competing with Netflix and its unrivaled spending. Orsi added that the deluge of series from streaming services is "absolutely diluting" quality of shows by ordering in volume. And other producers, like Luca Guadagnino and Michael Haneke, "don't want to get lost at Netflix". To hear him tell it, many creators prefer HBO's model, because they know their work is going to get more attention. "That's a very valuable talent".

"There is a conundrum if we do take off on one of these Game of Thrones spin-offs, where do we start?"
