Google Tez now gets a new chat feature

Currently, the feature is rolling out and would soon be made available to all the 13.5 million users of the application. The service aims to take on Paytm and WhatsApp and is gradually rolling out to its 13.5 million active users.

"We've added a feature to Tez that allows you to send simple messages back and forth to your contacts about the payments you make, " said a Google spokesperson.

Countering Paytm and WhatsApp, Google Tez has been updated with a new chat feature.

The feature is not available to all Tez users as the roll out is slow and also both parties should be on the latest version of the app to use the feature.

Google explained the reason behind the idea that it would make easy for people to keep a record and check on their transactions when they send or receive money to/from their contacts.

As part of the launch, the global search engine behemoth tied up with a number of banks such as Axis, HDFC Bank, ICICI and the State Bank of India and others. Tez now works with over 70 UPI-enabled banks to make the customer experience as seamless as possible.

There is a dedicated chat button that sits right next to the "Pay" and "Request" buttons on the Google Tez app that allows you to simply interact with your contacts.

The move aims to take a direct shot at Paytm which recently added a chat support- Inbox- to its platform. Google had been working with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to build the app in accordance with its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) standard.

We personally like Google Tez and WhatsApp Payments more than Paytm due to their ability to transfer money directly to bank accounts.

A war between the mobile wallets has become intense especially after the RBI's full KYC mandate. In order to add a new bill, users just have to go to the New Payment tab and tap on Pay your bills option.
