Malcolm Butler To Sign With Titans For Five Years, $61 Million

Butler has spent his entire National Football League career to this point with New England but is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, per Spotrac.

The Titans will sign former Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Thus ends one of the most interesting careers with the New England Patriots.

Butler won two Super Bowls in his four years with the Patriots but didn't play at all defensively in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year, a move that mystified many Patriots fans.

He intercepted Russell Wilson's pass at the goal line with 20 seconds left in the game, preventing a go-ahead touchdown from the Seattle Seahawks.

Butler was also part of the Patriots' Super Bowl LI 34-28 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons.

The two-time champion and hero of Super Bowl XLIX was controversially benched by Bill Belichick in Super Bowl LII in a decision that split the locker room and all but guaranteed that Butler will play elsewhere in 2018.

He became the team's top corner the next season and did not disappoint, playing 90 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps while locking down the opposition's top receivers.

He set a career high in 2016 with four interceptions, but his play wasn't enough for New England to lock Butler, then a restricted free agent, into a long-term contract.

In three years since taking over as a starter with the Patriots, Butler collected eight interceptions and did not miss a game.

Now, Butler has finally cashed in on the open market.
