ASI RKS Tomar, constable Ajay Kumar Yadav, constable Manoranjan Lanka, constable Jitendra Singh, constable Shobhit Sharma, constable Manoj Singh, constable Dharmendra Singh, constable Chandra HS and head constable Lakshman lost their lives in the blast.

As per the reports, the rebels used a lot of explosives to blow up the vehicle and just after the incident reinforcement was rushed to the spot to investigate and rescue operation for some survived injuries.

"A patrolling party was going from Kistaram to Palodi in an anti-landmine vehicle which was targeted by Maoist with an IED".

"Nine CRPF men were killed and two others wounded in today's unfortunate attack", D M Awasthi, special director general of police, anti-Naxal operations told the media.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh too strongly condemned the "cowardly and shameful" attack and said Naxals were afraid that development works will put an end to their activities.

Upping the ante against the Centre, the Congress said the former had failed to control Left-wing extremism with its "aimless" policy on national security which had created disquiet internally and on the borders, and said the latest Maoist attack on a CRPF team exposed the government's hollow claims on ending Naxalism.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

A statement issued by the CRPF said that the encounter took place between the CRPF's 208 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalion and Maoists at 8 a.m. today.

At least nine CRPF personnel were killed and several others injured in a Maoist attack in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

12 jawans of the CRPF were killed in the same district in March a year ago.
